Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS)

So, I want to start by saying I just completed my CAPS certification a couple of weeks ago and congratulations are in order! For those who are not familiar with this, CAPS is abbreviated for Certified Aging in Place Specialist with the National Association of Home Builders.

Why did I?

I base my design thought process for every project with a general concept of Universal Design (“Universal design is an expression of an inclusive concept that addresses and allows for essentially anyone or any ability to function well within a residential space.”) a subject that I am very passionate about and with this in mind I create well designed spaces. Also, because I want to make sure the projects, I work on are not only stylish and beautiful, but functional and that the design concept and layout make sense today and tomorrow.

Learning about aging in place was just the next step to be able to create homes that can be lived with no obstacles or with accommodations for all members of the household.

And now what? Well, my team and I will help our clients design their” forever home”.

If you are looking to custom build or renovate, we will partner up with owners, builders, and general contractors to design and specify layout, materials, fixtures, lighting, and all other items required for your project.

" The Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) designation program teaches the technical, business management, and customer service skills essential to competing in the fastest growing segment of the residential remodeling industry: home modifications for the aging-in-place.

The baby boom generation has many choices as this large population of potential clients for remodelers, builders, contractors and occupational therapists considers where to live — but overwhelmingly, seniors would prefer to stay in their own homes. The CAPS designation offers your potential clients what they need most: reassurance that you’ll help them make the choices that will help them stay in their homes safely and securely.

In addition, the CAPS designation helps you make your clients’ homes more “visitable.” Even if the home owners don’t think they need additional task lighting, grab bars, and other home modifications for their own use, their family members and visitors might. CAPS helps you help your clients make the right choices, and it gives you more security in remodeling market niche that’s continuing to grow in popularity. " ** Taken from NAHB website**
